I was at Northern Stage twice in two days this week – once to have lunch (where I was devastated to discover they no longer do the veggie sausage sandwich, even though it is still printed on the menu. Hurtful, people). Then to see Alex & Eliza, Umar Butt’s charming, funny and powerful tale of family in Partition-era India and Pakistan. It’s not a flawless piece, by any means – a little uneven in places, and some of the accents were a bit questionable – but I was really taken with it (and not just because Butt is from Glasgow and I enjoyed hearing the accent again). (Review when live here.)It’s coming to the Traverse in November, so do check it out if you’re in town.
