Last night was the second of my big Christmas shows – The Snow Queen at Northern Stage. It’s a beautifully designed and wittily written adaptation, but I didn’t love it quite as much as I hoped to: it was overlong, the narrative felt a little underwhelming and convoluted and it lacked the touch of magic you want from a Christmas show. The opinion of my group was mixed – all agreed that the first half sagged a bit, but a couple of my friends thought the second half pulled it back on track, though I was a little less convinced. Still, it looks great, there are some good joke, fun songs and gorgeous puppets, so you could definitely do worse than checking it out. (Full review here).
